The origin of burnout cannot be traced back to a single factor. Numerous reasons may lead to it given the complexity of a human being. However, it is always a mix of health, psychological, occupational and other issues that come together.
MEDICAL & PHYSICAL CAUSES
Stem from deficiencies, or diseases:
- Adrenal fatigue
- Allergies and food intolerance
- Anemia
- Deficiencies of vitamins, micro/macro elements, and other nutrients
- Chronic silent inflammation
- Chronic diseases such as diabetes, Hashimoto thyroiditis, Lyme disease, infection with Epstein Barr, fibromyalgia
- Inadequate nutrition
- Side effects of medication
- Disturbed bacterial flora of the intestines, leaky gut
- Unstable cervical spine
- Lack of sleep
- Lack of exercise
PSYCHOLOGICAL CAUSES
Stem from a person’s character, family history, upbringing, and psychological disorders:
- Types of personality
- Subjective interpretation of the stressful situation
- Values and beliefs
- Anxiety
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Personality disorders
- Occupational
- Resulting from the problems in a workplace:
- Long working hours
- Too high or too low expectations at work
- Lack of recognition and praise (including financial)
- Insufficient independence
- A sense of not belonging to the team/company
- Lack of opportunities
- The obligation to be continuously available (outside of working hours and on the weekends)
- Extensive business travels
- Conflicts with superiors
- Change of the supervisor/manager
- Mobbing
- Fear of losing the job
- Conflict of interests and values
- A legal dispute with a supervisor, co-worker, customer or supplier
SOCIAL CAUSES
Stem from the relationships with other people:
- Conflicts with the spouse or other family members
- Parenting issues
- Illness or death of a family member or friend
- Change of the social status
- Change of residence
- Constant disagreements with neighbors
- Problems with the authorities
ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES
Stem from external factors:
- Sick building syndrome
- Multiple chemical sensitivity
- Artificial light
- Elektrosmog
- Air pollution
- Noise
